Berlioz - Misoon Ghim - Au cimetière, Les nuits d'été

Misoon Ghim made her American stage début with the Opera Company of Philadelphia in 1996 as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly. Her performances in this role garnered many accolades and led to engagements as Suzuki with Central City Opera, Virginia Opera and Madison Opera. Early in her career she also appeared as Third Lady in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with the Seattle Opera.

This season, she performs several roles with New York City Opera including Selysette (Ariane et Barbe Bleue), and Marchisa Melibea (Il Viaggio a Reims). She returns to NYCO next season as Suzuki in Mark Lamos' acclaimed production of Madama Butterfly. During the 2004-5 season, Ms. Ghim worked with Opera Orchestra of New York in Thomas' Mignon and with The New York City Opera as Suzy (La Rondine) and Soraya in Haroun and the Sea of Stories.

On the concert stage she has performed as soloist in Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Maestro Wolfgang Sawallisch; Mahler's Rückert Lieder with Christoph Eschenbach and the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Sapporo, Japan; Mozart's Regina Coeli with the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra; Brahms' Alto Rhapsody with the Buceon Philharmonic Orchestra in Seoul; Rossini's Stabat Mater and Beethoven's Mass in C and Choral Fantasy with the Scarsdale Choral Society, and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Princeton Chamber Symphony. She also performed Rossini arias as soloist with the Korean Broadcast System National Orchestra under the direction of Japanese conductor Yukata Sado.

Ms. Ghim holds two Masters degrees, her first in vocal performance (1993) from the Juilliard School and her second from the Curtis Institute of Music in Opera Theatre (1995). While at Juilliard and Curtis, she performed as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Marchesa Melibea in Il Viaggio à Reims, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, and Valetto in L'Incoronazione di Poppea. She was a member of San Francisco Opera's prestigious Merola Program and has studied with Marlena Malas, Daniel Ferro, and Dr. Philip Cho. She has also participated in master classes with Christa Ludwig, Regina Crespin, Lotfi Mansouri, and Tom Kraus.

Among her many distinctions, Ms. Ghim is a recipient of the National Council Education Fund Award from the Metropolitan Opera; a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and winner of the Zachary Society Vocal Competition.
